Providing Specialist,
Person-Centred Care
At Shine Care, we believe care is about much more than tasks or routines - it’s about helping people live the lives they want, in a place that they call home.
We provide specialist, person-centred support for people with complex needs, learning disabilities, autism, and associated conditions. Every individual’s care is designed around their goals, preferences, and strengths - empowering them to develop skills, build confidence, and live with independence.
Our approach is collaborative, working closely with families, advocates, and commissioners to ensure every plan is not just personalised, but genuinely life-enhancing.
The Shine Care Story
Shine Care began in a tiny room on Mosley Street in Newcastle, where Jonathan and Claire set out with a bold vision: to deliver care shaped entirely around the person - giving people the respect, independence, and opportunities they deserve.
From the start, their mission was simple but powerful:
Listen carefully, offer real choices, and shape support around what matters most to each person. Even the choice to use the word clients was deliberate - a daily reminder that the people Shine Care supports are not just recipients of care, but the very reason the organisation exists.
Not long after Shine Care began, the BBC exposed the abuse at Winterbourne View Hospital. The scandal shocked the nation, but for Jonathan and Claire, it also confirmed the urgency of what they were trying to do. If services built on compassion and respect were ever needed, it was then.

The Beginning
The early years were far from easy. Progress was slow, and for a long time, Shine Care had no clients at all. It would have been easy to give up, but Jonathan and Claire held fast to their vision. Nearly two years passed before Shine Care welcomed its very first client - who, more than a decade later, is still with us and thriving in their own home.
From those first small steps, Shine Care began to grow steadily, one client at a time, building a reputation for compassion, professionalism, and innovation.
Along the way, there were challenges - none more testing than the arrival of COVID-19 in 2020. With long hours, sleepless nights, and the pressure of safeguarding vulnerable clients, the team pulled together and carried Shine Care through. It was an incredibly difficult period, but it also showed who we are at our core: resilient, adaptable, and determined to find solutions no matter the circumstances.
During this time, Shine Care also became one of the first to embrace true multi-partnership working - creating new ways of collaborating that placed clients firmly at the centre and ensured they received the very best support.

The Journey
Today, Shine Care is proud to employ over 70 people and support 16 clients across the North East. We continue to grow carefully, welcoming new team members each week and expanding our services in ways that stay true to our founding values.
Staff are encouraged to find their own adventure - with training, enrichment programmes, and opportunities to progress their careers.
What began as a response to injustice has become a thriving organisation that holds fast to its belief that happy staff enable clients to live their best lives. From a small Newcastle office to a recognised and trusted care provider, Shine Care’s story is still being written - and every new chapter begins with the same promise: person-centred care, compassion, and respect.

Where We Are Now
Our Values
Our values are more than words on a page - they’re the principles that guide how we work every single day. They shape the experience of our staff, our clients, and the wider community.
Supportive
We are compassionate. We look after one another, and everyone’s well-being matters deeply to us.
Transparent
We are open and honest. Thoughtful listening and clear communication guide everything we do.
Exceptional
We are driven. We take pride in exceeding standards and surpassing expectations.
Creative
We are creative. We embrace change and design innovative solutions to complex challenges.
These values make us different. They remind us why Shine Care exists - to be a positive force in the care sector, to support people to live with dignity and independence, and to be the best place to work in the Northeast.

Why We Do What We Do
At Shine Care, we believe care is about much more than tasks and routines - it’s about helping people live the lives they want, in a place that they call home.
We exist because vulnerable people deserve better. Our goal is to transform lives by supporting independence, confidence, and community connection. That means working in partnership with families, advocates, and commissioners to design support that feels personal, empowering, and full of possibility.
We also believe that the best care begins with the people who provide it. That’s why we put so much energy into supporting our staff - with training, progression, and a culture where well-being comes first. When our team feels valued, respected, and supported, our clients feel it too.
We want you to be a part of our future.
At Shine Care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We carefully select carers for their values, warmth, and commitment to providing kind and nurturing support. Skills and experience matter, but what matters most is a caring personality and a genuine desire to make a difference.
